Tony nominees Jonathan Hadary and Amelia Campbell and Peter and the Starcatcher alum Nicole Lowrance have signed on to star in Keen Company’s revival of Middle of the Night, a rarely produced 1954 drama by Oscar winner Paddy Chayefsky. The play begins performances on February 11 at the Clurman Theatre on Theatre Row and will open on February 27 in a limited engagement running through March 29. Keen Company artistic director Jonathan Silverstein will helm the production.
In addition to Hadary, Campbell and Lowrance, the cast will include Todd Bartels, Alyssa May Gold, Denise Lute and Melissa Miller. The seven-member company will play multiple roles.
Described as a comedy about a May-December romance in 1950s New York City, Middle of the Night centers on a older Jewish widower (Hadary} and a young gentile bride (Lowrance) of another man, who meet and fall in love, throwing their disapproving families into a tizzy.
A Tony nominee for the 1989 revival Gypsy, Hadary has appeared on Broadway in Golden Boy, Awake and Sing!, All Shook Up, Spamalot, The Best Man, Guys and Dolls, As Is, Torch Song Trilogy and Gemini. Campbell received a Tony nomination for Our Country’s Good and has appeared on Broadway in A Streetcar Named Desire, Waiting in the Wings, The Herbal Bed, Translations and A Small Family Business.
The design team for Middle of the Night will include Steven Kemp (set), Jonathan Spencer (lighting), Jennifer Paar (costume) and Obadiah Eaves (sound).
